Yahoo Listing
What exactly does having a listing in the yahoo directory do for you regarding google search results?
Is it as influental as a DMOZ lisiting? |

It helps increase your PR and is as influental as DMOZ.
if the page of your listing on both Yahoo and Dmoz have the same PR, both listings will be relativly the same influence to your page in PR terms. (give and take the number of links on the page of the directories). |

Thanks for asking that Urko.
I would like to hear other's experience on this too. I still have not shelled out $300 for a listing there. I don't feel that it will get me very many direct clicks and need to base this on any kick that will go into my position in the google serps or my PR (the PR of the pages that I might be listed on in the Yahoo directory is a puny PR3 so that doesn't look like a good use of $300 for one link). And, from what I hear they might not give you the exact link text that you would prefer. Who thinks this is worth the money? Anybody still waiting for "proof" like me? We've just paid the 300 bucks and the listing has just gone live.
Much biting of nails etc as we'd heard that they're quite strict about spelling mistakes etc. It'll take a while to see if it has any effect, hopefully it hasn't been a waste of time and money. |

Do you remember when a listing in Yahoo was worth a fortune in traffic?
I believe those day will return , Yahoo need to give preference to those listed in their directory and I'm sure with huge amounts of lost revenue from submissions they are looking at this. How did a massive portal fail those that paid them to be included in their search results only to be dumped by yahoo like a black bag full of rubbish in favour of googles results? Yahoo were giants when it came to traffic , now I feel they are sleeping giants about to launch a massive attack on their rivals. Yahoo will not take loss of revenue lightly even though a heck of lot their current revenue is coming from overture which they bought. Bring on the competition I say to Yahoo !

We have a site that is listed #8 for it's search term on Yahoo and this site get's only 20 visitors per day from Yahoo. On Google that listing would deliver around 400 visitors. We also have a number of sites listed in Yahoo (most are grandfathered in, however we have around 5 that we've paid the "big bucks" to be listed) and they don't do any better with Google than any of our other sites that are not listed in Yahoo. Hence, my opinion it is not worth it to pay to be listed in Yahoo if you are trying to influence your Google ranking. Also, I don't see it being worth it to pay to be listed in Yahoo even if you're trying to get traffic. Do understand this is my personal experience with a handful of sites, but I think that this theory is true and I am surprised that anyone would pay to have a site listed with yahoo. You'd be much better off investing the money with AdWords, Overture, etc.
