Red face Yahoo Directory

With the introduction of Inktomi to Yahoo during 2004, I wondered what people thought about the Yahoo Directory, is it worth the $299 that you have to pay to get your website listed. (If it's successful)

I'm struggling to get listed in Dmoz after 8 months, the category I have submitted to has had no new sites listed in during the last 8 months, and with hundreds of website still waiting review I thought Yahoo would be the best direction.

What do you think?

Darren

Depending on category will determine the traffic, perhaps email other webmasters of sites in those categories you're wonerding about. It can go both ways, some categories just dont drive traffic and some do.

For a presonal opinon, I don't think its worth the price but if there is a budget you have to spend, go for it.

i looked at yahoo again just last week.
if you got $300 to burn...then i guess its one way to go.

what sucks is that you dont even get a backlink from the listing because of the way the linking is formatted.

i personally wont spend the money.

You sure get a backlink, it took 20 sec to find an example:

I'm currently seeing my Yahoo Directory listing (title and description) showing at #9 for my most competitive keyphrase in the Yahoo search results.

I do not have a top ten listing on either Google or MSN (Inktomi) for this keyphrase.

That's right! The same goes for business.com listings that appear high in Google for highly searched for phrases.

I paid to get into the Yahoo! Directory in November. I do have a backlink showing for it in Google.

BUT, it has NOT helped in any way, our placement in the Yahoo results. A search for our main keyword brings up a deep page at postion 453. Our main page, listed in the Yahoo directory, does not come up at all.(?)

So far, for us, it was a $299. backlink.

I spent the $299 and another $50/month to be a sponsered listing. I can't find my site in any of the locations I had expected. I've sent dozens of emails to yahoo and haven't received even a computer generated response! I think the only way to get action will be a back-charge on my credit card. I reccommend to use your money elsewhere! Mike, www.amishwoodshop.com

Mike,

Yahoo directory submissions must be approved by an editor before they go live. Did you receive a confirmation e-mail that your listing was approved?

mcdar, you say it has not helped in any other way. How many clicks do you get a month from that placement. One can calculate ROI from that by saying each click is worth a minimum of 10 cents (and perhaps much more).
