Worth It To Pay?

Many sites like www.gimpsy.com, www.GoGuides.org and www.skaffe.com come highly recommended, but have a $40 fee if you wish immediate submission. If we have the budget, should we pay to get included?

Gimpsy charges? Wow... I didn't know that. I was gladly surprised a couple of months ago when I got an email from them saying that my site had been added to their directory... and I didn't even submit it!

If they pass PR and there is good PR for the page you are submitting too and not too many other links then I say "go fo it". It's a good way to start getting quality BL's.

The current GoGuides & Skaffe were "born" out of the old GoGuides directory. They have both been around for a long time.

Gimpsy has also been around for several years. IMO, all three will likely be around for the long haul. IMO, a one time review fee is probably a worthwhile investment for them.

I also submit to some other smaller quality directories. For example I use these 2 (incrawler*com and linkopedia*com) in a "package" a lot. It costs me $25 for both, and they all have decent PR that is nicely propagated to subcategories, just a few links in categories, good customer service, very nice design, they all been around for at least a year, google spiders them very often and submission price is acceptable.

I got one of my sites listed in Gympsy and Skaffe for free and I never submitted to Goguides. I did pay smaller fees (less than $30) for some smaller directories including some of those Lici mentioned in his tread.

Make sure the sites pass PR. some directories use redirects.

I own a directory and submit to just about all the directories I can for my other sites. Take my directory for example, most of my categories are a PR5 or a PR4, get cached frequently by Google, MSN and Yahoo. I offer a one time fee currently $24.95.

Where else but a directory can you get a one-way text link? For the price of most directories it is worth it. Think about the potential income of your site and what it is worth to promote it.

Good luck!

Some directories are worth the fee but I would not submit my site to some directories even if they pay me. I think it is a good think to do a little research before you pay.

I think most of the directories under $40 are a good deal. Take a look at pricing for a PR 4/5 text link on any of the major brokerage sites (usually $30-100/month). I can usually find a PR 3/4, sometimes 5 category to submit to for any where from $5 to $40 one time fee. Like someone else mentioned, just make sure they pass PR and don't redirect your link.

I listed one of my sites in JoeAnt and never got one single hit. It all depends of the category and position of your site within the category. I think.

I'm an editor at Joeant.com for shopping. If anyone has a site for me to review, PM me.
