Widely used directory scripts

I am aware of a few threads about directory scripts in this forum. My question is different here so PLEASE don't use this thread to promote your directory scripts. Thank you.

What are the most widely used directory scripts?
I am aware of great gossamer-threads script and I found out that biz-directory PHP scrip it used by a few bigger directories.
Any others? And again please don't push little unknown and not widely used scripts. Thank you.

Lici, I had our directory custom built, and I think it's very worthwhile. The scripts simply don't carry enough uniqueness to set you apart from the competition and in the SEO world, it's all about being set apart. You really can't optimize and promote a site to the best of your ability unless it has a reason for being on top, and directories are no different. I'd think of a unique value model, something other directories don't have. Personally, I look at uncoverthenet.com as an example - they've done a fantastic job.

Randfish, I do agree with what you are saying for people that can afford custom built directories.
But for the people that can't afford more then a few hundred dollars a good, quality already made script is a good solution. Also many of those scripts are highly customizable.
I like the effort that people behind UTN are putting into that directory, but to be honest with you at this point to me UTN looks just like another copy of Yahoo model.

Nobody recommended any strong directory scripts yet. I would also like to know what scripts bigger directories are using. That would be helpful.

The most popular is probably biz-directory PHP. I'm not really impressed by UTN. I feel they are just selling PRs in another way.

The biz-directory script is very popular and makes a good starting base for small to medium directories. For larger directories it’s essential to have one developed to meet your needs or you will be sinking a fortune into development costs. Simple things like image verification and auto submission reply can save you an enormous amount of time. The biz-directory script is very basic and clumsy in some areas. It also holds an open door to automated submissions, even from a cached page.

Go to the cplinks website and you'll see a list of them. I think it is cplinks.com

I don't see any familiar directories listed there. Do you have any experience with this script?

Wow uses biz-directory

The other one, a recent found, but seems to be really powerful is phplinkdirectory.com

I use the biz-directory script for WoW but have had to spend well over $3,000 in script development.

Ouch. Sounds like it would have been cheaper to have one custom written to begin with.

Ok, ... so it looks like that except custom written scripts, gossamer-threads script and biz-directory PHP script nothing else comes up.

I thought there would be more then just 2 major directories scripts with so many directories around.

I’m not sure what a custom developed script would have cost to have done but it would have saved a lot of headaches and time. You need things like auto submission reply, image verification and many other features on the editors side in order to process submissions efficiently and with less errors.
