Which directories should I join?
I have started to submit my site to a lot of the free directories but now I was thinking of buying some links in directories, but I not sure which ones. I have been told that google doesn't trust certain directories, since they are now doing some kind of trust rank. I want to find out which direcotries have help other people.

If you go about this efficiently, the ones that "help" will generously outweigh the ones that don't.
A directory listing is not likely to hurt your ranking, even if the directory in question seems to have fallen from grace. On the other hand: since there are so many 13-in-a-dozen dirs nowadays, you can't expect them all to be of great value. Still, I like to submit to the free ones (like those listed on the pages the previous posters pointed out). I suggest you don't use the same title and dscription over and over again. Use an excel sheet or maybe roboform to coordinate your dir submissions....

Try Zeal, JoeAnt, GoGuides, and Gimpsy. They have all been around awhile and seem well-respected. Might try MSN's bCentral too. I own a directory as well (listed in profile).
