Which directories?

Would be a waist of time submitting my site to directories that are not SEO friendly? I did a litte Google serach and this site gives some great examples on which directories are search engine friendly http://www.platinax.co.uk/webmasters/articles/6/ I suppose best way to find out is a find them a try.

as long as their free, and you can submit in under 5 min... do it.

even if you don't get a backlink, you might get some traffic.

pinyo agrees: Good point. Traffic is why we want PageRank in the first place isn't it?

Yes, unless the directory can offer you qualified traffic or branding. IOW, industry portals or tightly themed, topic specific directories may still be worthwhile even if they don't offer any SEO value.

Yeah, I don't think it can hurt. You can always have somebody click on that link, and then tell his friends how great your site is, and they tell their friends, and all of a sudden you have thousands of hits just from that one link. All this will work only in case that your site is a great site and people love it. If it sucks nothing on this world can help you.

It depends on what value you put on your time. If you think your work is worth $20/hour and submitting your site takes three minutes, it's like costing you a dollar. If you think the link will earn you more than $1 back, then it's worth it.
