Where to get catagories for a new directory?

We are starting a new search directory. My original plan was to start a directory with no sites but use Open Directories' catagories.

Then I read the Open Directory License. I don't want to put links back to open directory for editors.

Does anybody know a good source for getting a starting set of catagories for a directory?

I think most directories create their own unique structure from scratch.

Just build a structure that fits your needs from scratch. It might help to have an option avaliable to submit your own category suggestions as well though.

I know I would go crazy trying to grow my own. It seams that as the directory grows their would be a lot of moving of directories and so forth. I would be great if their was a place to reuse a structure where the experience curve has already be done.
