Where do you go to find web directories?
Let's say you want to submit your website to some web directories. How would you go about finding them?
Search engines? DMOZ? Yahoo? Any other place? |

You need only search our Other Directory forum. You will find sources like: http://info.vilesilencer.com/main.php?rock=add_url.php

So that would be: 1. Search Engines 2. Major directories (DMOZ, Yahoo) 3. Forums (recommended by SEO_AM) Any other resources? |

Didn't I just write DMOZ and Yahoo under #2 on my list? Any other ideas for where to look for web directories except those 3 places I already listed? Last edited by SEO_AM : May 19th, 2005 at 09:00 AM. Reason: Removed live link |

Ajdee, unless you can through mental telepathy see all URLs and their subject matter, you are pretty well restricted to just a few areas in which to look. Instead of admonishing another member (which is not nice)... think. You have very few places in which to look. You can search, go to sites that gather such lists (forums) or go to master directories that list the lesser directories. Beyond that... you add to it. How is your mental telephathy? |

Ok. So then we agree on SE, Major Directories, Forums and lists of directories. How about sites that specialize in web directories? I know a few, for example http://isedb.com/ is a good one I think. How about some others? Please don't post any little, self-promoting URLs. I am interested in well establish websites that don't provide just a directories lists, but some extra useful resources (articles, news) as well. I also apologize if I was not nice to cutie28, it was not my intention to do that. Last edited by Ajdee : May 19th, 2005 at 11:37 AM. |

Thank you for that vinser, but like I said I was hoping for some site(s) that provide more resources about web directories then just a list of directories with basic information. A site that has articles about web directories, news and other useful resources related to web directories. |

Ajdee... have you tried searching this forum? Maybe there's some info in a thread you just havn't found (I've tried it and found good info before). Good luck with your endeavor. Last edited by jrothra : May 19th, 2005 at 03:56 PM. Reason: Noticed a list of forums was not wanted (I have 108 I can recommend, though, that I got from someone else's post in here, but can't recall who). |

Thank you for the advice jrothra, I looked but I didn't find anything that would help me. I was thinking that maybe somebody will come up with something here in this tread. But no luck so far. |

Want other people to do all your work for you ?
Adjee there a few of us around who have hit the same issue and are trying to find ways round it and through it.
One pancea site doesnt seem to exist a few of us are starting to share what resources we are creating to help evereyone out, but directories come and go all the time, change policies, change from subscription and back again, pr levels can change completely every few months. It would be a full time job to keep on top and become an authority, and keep you up to date. So you have a choice use what helps, lists and tools are out there without wining, or actually research and publish such a site yourelf. Id love to, but between by day job and the rest of my life its not going to happen to the quality id like. There have been a number of threads published on the issue, three or four good lists about in these forums, id bother to read them. |

I don't think anyone has mentioned Aaron Wall's Directory Archives site? Most of the directories are good static link directories so worth the time in getting listed. http://www.directoryarchives.com I'd personally avoid places like http://www.searchenginecolossus.com/ as a place to find good links as you can end up wasting alot of your time there submitting to sites that don't show as back links. cheers M28 Last edited by SEO_AM : May 20th, 2005 at 08:26 AM. |

This thread is pooped.
I would leave it to die. I is too hard to understand what he is looking for. He asked for directorys and people showed him directorys and thats not good enough. So far about 3 members have suggested enough directotys to keep him busy for 3 months submitting but that dosent seem good enough. I cant work out how we can help if the answers that i thought were very good arent good enough for you. |

Thank you for your opinion mick.sawyer. I don't know why is so hard to understand what I am looking for. I am not looking for just plain directories list, but a site that would be a portal type of site, with all kind of resources about web directories. For example, Articles about the web directories, News, Interviews with directories owners (administrators), etc ... It looks like that Noj didn't have any problems understanding what I am looking for. Thank you for your reply Noj. And like Noj said it looks like that the type of site I am looking for doesn't really exist, or we don't know about it. Just in case I was not clear enough I'll give you an example mick.sawyer. I am looking for something like searchenginewatch.com but dedicated only to web directories. Also I don't want other people to do all work for me. I did a lot of work trying to find this kind of site and I was not successful, so I thought maybe somebody knows about this kind of resource and it is willing to help. Is that to much to ask? If you don't know about the resource like that just don't answer and with no answers the tread will die like mick.sawyer suggested. Last edited by Ajdee : May 20th, 2005 at 11:34 AM. |
