To Yahoo or not to Yahoo?

That is the question. Will the link from yahoo be enough to push you up the ranking in google? Even a little?

yes it will push you up in ranking a little. if everything is kept constant and the PR boost helps from Yahoo. You will be higher than the competing competition.

well if you programmed the exact same site (i.e. same structure, same text, same coding etc.).

Your not understanding me. I am talking in general terms.

You asked, "Will the link from yahoo be enough to push you up the ranking in google? Even a little?"

The answer is YES.

But there are other factors that come into play. Yahoo! will help increase your PageRank, pagerank is a factor Google uses to rank sites.

So if Site A is equal to Site B in all SEO terms except for PageRank. Then the site with a higher PageRank will rank higher in the results.

So if your Site A and you want to list higher than Site B. Then if Site A's PR is less than the PR value of the link coming from Yahoo! then the PR boost from Yahoo! will help you come up higher than Site B.

Is this making sense?

Yahoo might change the format of their directory from PFI to PPC/CPC in the future. Getting in now (if you are so inclined) might allow your listing to be grandfathered should they make a change. This is pure speculation on my part.
