The Most Professional Looking Directory
In your opinions, which directory(ies) have achieved the best looking, or the most professional looking interface without compromising functionality or useability. It doesn't have to be a global directory, it can be a niche directory.

I'm looking for ideas. I'm refacing a fairly high trafficked niche directory and I would like to give it a more professional look and still keep it clean. You know like DMOZ, only not have it look like it was built by a 12 year old.

Good topic.

I just went through my huge list at http://www.socengine.com/seo/guide/seo-list-of-directories.php and could not find a design I was really happy with... SevenSeek is pretty strong, so is Bluefind. AlltheWebsites is not bad either... But there's no clear winner. Maybe you can innovate and take the design directory award!

I don't think those of us interested in directories are really all that interested in aesthetics.

I do like clean looking directories E.G.-----> site-sift http://www.site-sift.com/ (except for those site wide links at the bottom of every page)

www.orangefish-directory.co.uk springs to mind. It's clean-looking and uncluttered, but not too bare. Unless by "professional" you mean "boring", in which case the nice little fish logo would have to go ;) I think it looks professional because it looks focused and advanced. Furthermore it doesn't have more colours than a 4-year-old'd garderobe OR more ads than cats.

That's my first, and second, impression for you

That is pretty wild. It must have taken some serious coding to create that site. I don't know if it was worth it though, I'll have to use it a little more before I decide.
