Success not begetting success........

I have a keyphrase of 3 words that looks like it should do well for me and I am at #9 in yahoo.co.uk .
My next step was to check the keyword tool in Overture UK and I am moderately pleased to find that 94 hits are supposed to be registered per month as well as more for similar keyphrases.
Going back over my Stats in Webaliser and I see that this term has never once over the past 3 months been used to find my site.
It seems unreasonable that this should be so but there must be an explanation.Obviously not much point in seeking to further boost the ranking (although in yahoo.com I am lower) and the search term seems very good and appropriate for me .Any ideas anyone?

Well, there could be a variety of factors affecting the rankings.

- What are those sites in the top 10 doing for onpage SEO? Hx tags? Keyword placement? Any other onpage SEO?
- How many BL's do they have (offpage SEO)? Are they quality BL's?
- How does their onpage/offpage compare to yours?
- How old are the domains (theirs and yours)?
- Has your domain ever been blacklisted?

Without seeing the site, this is what I would say check. Also, it's a good idea to create pages that target those keywords people are actually using to find your site.

i have no problem with the ranking I achieved. It is #9 for yahoo.co.uk and even #2 for Google.co.uk.
The problem is that even with this respectable prominence, and also with the reassurance via Overture's Keyword Tool that I have targeted a fairly popular keyphrase, that my own statistics show zero visitors as a result of that particular search query.
I would be used to suffering as a result of failure but on this occasion it looks like I have succeeded with a popular keyphrase only to meet with a lack of the expected response -actual site visitors. So I am mystified.

if i get your question right

94 hits per month meens including:

3 word keyword + something
3 word keyword + something

even if you target 3 word keywords, people can type in 4 word phrase, my advice is to check your statistic and see what phrase give you traffic, and try make better ranking on them

but i must say im not sure for this answer

I'll try to explain

Thanks to the both of you for trying to help me I don't think either of John or Bruno have understood my little problem.
I know you are saying to build on keyphrases that are already coming up in my stats but this 3 word keyphrase is similar to one already existing but potentially more promising and I am concentrating on it just now .It has not come up in my statistics at all as far as I know but I do believe it is good to target because (1) it feels good
(2) Overture shows it as giving good views
(3) a subsequent check shows that I am ALREADY in the top 2 in Google and the top10 in Yahoo.
But I just don't understand why I haven't had any actual visitors to my website who have reached me with that exact term.
Of course I know I have to concentrate on other possibly related keyphrases but this particular one is both puzzling and frustration in its refusal to act asI would anticipate
