Submitting to free search engines
Some where I read that www.joeant.com and www.goguides.org were free submission directories.
Well they are now charging some "express" fee to join their current submission process. Is it just me or is there really not a free submit option? Why would people pay 40.00 a pop to a never used directory? when there are so many free directories out there? Logic dictates a severe lack of common sense to me on that one. |

You can get a PR2 backlink that you hope will be around for a while... but I don't think you will get any traffic at all from a listing there.

Yes I agree. But 40 bux is definitly not worth the PR 2 backlink. That money could be spent alot better like a nice dinner or bottle of wine ;)
There are better directories that are much cheaper with better PR. Just depends on your business category. -PK |

try these:
http://www.google.com/search?source...+free+directory It's all a matter of hunting for them. Even if you pay 15 bucks for the year and it's a PR 5 it's still alot better than joeant. Most directories dont know about PR so you find webmaster holding onto PR 7 and PR 8 sites without realising it. All they want is the 20 bucks year when your getting so much more in return. They dont have to be popular sites either just good PR sites. -PK |

all 3 directories are PR0 .. useless .. and two of them look duplicate websites with just a different name...

They are PR 0 because they are new. More importantly, anchor text is extremely valuable from as many IP ranges as possible.
Besides, Toolbar PR is meaningless. All pages have PageRank, even pages with 0 on the toolbar. |

I submitted to all three; they are clones, but for 90 seconds of work, oh well.

Another free option
Another directory with a free submit option is Gimpsy (http://www.gimpsy.com). PR is 6 on the home page, lower on the internal pages. The wait in the free queue is 2-3 months.
There is a paid option too, with 72 hour review and 90 day promotion to a top position, now at 20 USD. MC |

What traffic are you getting though.. I think people are forgetting that little important matter.

leedslad73,
Gimpsy does not disclose traffic figures, just like every other search engine or directory. (Sure, some of them CLAIM to have that many searches / visitors, but I have yet to see an independently verified number from anyone.) You can, however, get a pretty good idea of the progress Gimpsy made since going live last year in terms of traffic by looking at the Alexa graph. Crude as it may be - ranking 6464 (8 Nov 2003) is quite impressive... Hope that helps. 8-) MC Last edited by MC : November 8th, 2003 at 11:58 AM. |

Alexa........LOL
I would trust that as far as I can throw it. If you really want to know about the traffic the only way to verify is to simply look at your logs. Just because a directory claims numbers of searches dosn't all searches are the same. You have to look at your category at hand. I doubt a category of "Architecture" gets as many searches as "Entertainment". It's all what is in the public eye. Just look at the logs. -PK |
