Recommend a directory submission service?

We would like to get our site submitted to the top 50-100 directories, but just don't have the time right now.

Can anyone recommend a person or company that offers a high-quality directory submission service?

This may be a bit off topic but I'm posting as a cautionary note.

I have directory that takes free submissions. I got a submission from about 5 sites all within minutes of each other so I knew that the same person submitted them. Anyway, I checked out the sites to see if I they were a good include for my directory. One of the sites was a directory submission service. It charged $1000 dollars to submit to 25 directories and $2500 to submit to 50 or 100 or something like that. I felt like e-mailing their clients that he/she was trying to submit to my FREE directory and telling them to save their money. I thought it was a rip-off. I have to say some of the directories they advertised were pay-for-include directories. BUT $1000 dollars worth?

So, if you spend the money, make sure you get what you pay for. I can spend an afternoon submitting to 50 directories for $500 and feel guilty about it.

It's all relative I guess - time vs. money.

I would be happy to pay someone $500 to do a GOOD job submitting our site to the top 50 directories. I don't have an afternoon to spare, but I do have $500 to spare in order to get it done.

How would you evaluate the top 50 -100 directories?

My guess would be sites with high PR on the main page and distributed PR on interior pages, plus pretty well broken down topics so that there is some content connection between the site and the topic of the page.

In my experience the best directories are those that are topical and send themed traffic to my site.

Dave

I have a friend here in Atlanta that would take you on for that price. I believe you would get hand submitted to approximately 400-500 directories. My friend does nothing but directory submissions, and has turned it into a science. He is constantly finding new free directories. Also, directories often change their policies (ex. go from free to paid). If you want me to hook you up, send me a PM with the best way to contact you.

Thanks,
David

He'll hand submit to 400-500 directories for $500? I find that hard to believe. You sure he doesn't auto-submit??

Yes, I'm sure, because I have been involved in several of the SEO projects firsthand. I could be off slightly on the price, but if I am, it's not by much.

I am just curious and want to ask perspective cutomer about this service.

Are you only looking for someone to submit? How do you verify the submission happened? What would be satisfactory proof that it was money well spent.

I am thinking about doing this as a service, but still struggle with the above questions.

Yes, you actually get pretty reports in Excel with the url where your link will be found. You don't actually get access to the whole list of directories, but you get to see the successes. This report is generated a few weeks after the submissions, because it takes time for the directories to add your link.

One word of warning folks - although $ 500 to to get someone to manually submit to 500 directories sounds like an absolute bargain to me it might cause a few problems. 500 new links from directories appearing within a week or two of each other will almost certainly trip a few filters at Google and maybe some of the other SE's.

If you can it would be well worth paying extra to have the submissions staggered over several months.

$500 for hand submission to 500 directories just sounds too good to be true. How can that be worth anyone's time?? Or are we talking about the directories where you just submit a short title and URL and it takes all of 30 seconds to submit?

The directories themselves have a wide variance of approval times. Usually, for my sites, I do about 100 submissions per month until complete.

Concerning the increase in links, in my opinion, the links are going to have to age to have value on Google anyway, so don't get too concerned with adding new ones now. Get it done now, so you don't have to wait so long.

I heard once that $500 was about right for a medium-difficulty dmoz listing
Gets you a thousand more for free...

STT people, couldn't help it.

This is my personal feeling on the matter. I have submitted to many directories. I run across PFI's (pay for inclusion) all the time and wonder why people pay to get on a PR0 page when there are plenty of free directories out there with PR2 and PR3 pages. I've even seen directories with a PR0 homepage and No PR internal pages charging for inclusion. And people are paying. I don't understand it.

One day you'll run out of freebies.

Some move over to paid. Some think it's worth the money anyway. Some resort to guestbook spamming hehe...
