Listed in Yahoo really help?

Does being listed in Yahoo really help? The Yahoo page that I want to get my site listed on (Vacation Rentals) only has a PR5. So how does being listed in Yahoo and Open Directory help so much. I understand that the Yahoo homepage has a high PR, but my link won't be on the homepage, it will be in a sub-directory with a PR5. Any help here is much appreciated.

I've done some research on this lately and let me tell ya, ODP counts .. Yahoo doesn't count all that much! I'd kinda forget about yahoo unless you already have a fair amount of traffic coming from Yahoo - in which case being listed in their directory will allow you to get listed in their directory search, which is now a big part of their new search system http://search.yahoo.com

Thanks alot! I was considering paying the $299 to get in Yahoo, but really don't know if it is worth it.

Hi

Seeing my stats i still get many visitors from yahoo...
So there are still many people using it...

Try to get listed...if possible for free....
there is a backdoor website..to send your URL for free
even you have only a pay option to choose from...

check some of the old postings to find it..

For myself...it try to get my links everywhere...it simply
does not hurt...and you can only gain visitors...

Just because google...is the best, there are still millions
of visitors using the others,,,and directories...

regards, hans

Darrin, I have to disagree. My site had PR5 before the last update, menawhile it got listed in DMOZ and Google Directory and it still has PR5 (not to mention that the pages rank lower in the results with this update).

So does listing in DMOZ really help? Maybe if you got a listing on a category like "News" it will help, but if you have it on a lower ranking page it means nothing. Just a couple of additional links.

Just my 2 cents ;)

J.

IMHO I think it depends on which directory you get into on both, the closer to the root the better, cos the page rank'll be higher and the chances are that you'll be in a directory with your target keywords in the url.

In my experience it does not help with PR - granted you are right there, unless of course you get listed in a high PR directory (as you say).

My experience is that it helps target keywords if you can manage to get them to use a good keyword for your link.. This is not solely because of the DMOZ, it's because so many websites out there are powered by the DMOZ data. So on each of those websites you should have a link.. Which if you can get to be a keyword link will help in keyword targetting. Most of the directories out there using the DMOZ data are small and have low PR, so they might not show up in a backlink check! But the link still counts, & every little helps!

1 Link on the ODP = an automatic 70+ links back to your site, check out those that use ODP Data - Click Here

Question is though, how often these sites actually update their directory content? I just went for example to ask jeeves which has PR 7 for my two categories and although I have been in ODP for months with strong keywords, I am in neither area on their site. Bottom line, your mileage will vary....but hopefully in the long run it pays off.
