Today I have realized that dmoz.org can be used as a directory and not as a FFA linkfarm: ;)

Yeah, someone please come up with a directory submit tool for your browser. Filling in these fields each and everytime gets really tedious.

There will never be such a tool that submits too quality directories. It takes time. I did over 300 a couple weeks ago. It was well worth it. Directories all have different submission needs plus you need to find the best category for you. You wouldn't want a program doing that. Also alot of good one ask for a small fee too.

if i found out you used a program to submit to my directory, id delete your listing.

We all have to do it the slow and arduous way, stick with it.

If you do a couple everyday, it doesnt seem like so much of a chore.

Even if you could build a program to hit a heap of directories at a time, youd have a hard time makeing sure you're in the correct category, plus theres also the fact that many directories come and go frequently too.

Why would you delete it? If it was placed in the correct category, approved by yourself as a good listing, why delete it just due to the way it was submitted?

I would think this would be a good thing for a directory owner, after all they are trying to fill it with high quality listings. Just because it was submitted via a program rather than by hand, does that change the quality of the link/description/etc?

I have always thought it would be a good idea to start a legitimate site that allows for the mass submission of your site. It would do it in a way that was good for the directories. Say to start with it was formated to submit to the widelty used scripts like Biz Directory. The key would be that individual directory owners would need to sign up so directory entries by this site were wanted (via opt in)

It would seem if done right, it would be a tremendous tool for both new directory owners and webmasters/SEOs

i would delete it because the very idea of using an automatic program is just too tempting for spammers to submit multitudes of crap sites that id have to wade through every day just to find the gems.
Having a form that they have to manually fill out, kinda keeps the "one person submitting one hundred waste of space adsense websites at a time" syndrome at bay.

I think the best way to do this, would be to do a directory script that the webmaster would use, and all websites can use your site to submit to all directories using your script automatically. An automated DMOZ really. That would make your directory submissions almost necessary for every web owner.

you know what, that is actually a good idea. the directorys could be sorted by category, and a limit set so that you cant submit to more than 10 at a time. You should also be able to choose to submit to all in a certain category.

also, you would have to set it so that the directories all have the same categories, otherwise, I don't see a automatic submission going very well. The submission page will have a link to all the websites using the script, and a lot of webmaster based sites will have a link to the submission page. PR goes round and round.
