How many directories?
I've been searching SEO Chat Forums for a list of directories to submit to.
Most postings list hundreds and hundreds of directories. Is submitting your site to this many sites necessary? I've already submitted to about 20-30 directories - the ones that seemed most important and had high PR. Is spending all this time submitting my site to 300 of these directories necessary? That's a LOT of time I could spend doing this. Is it worth it? Any opinions? (Thanks!) |

Why is three just fine, I thought the more links to your site the better.
Thanks |

It was humour, you are right the more the better. Seriously free directories are going to help get you indexed, help create a natural link profile and help towards low competition phrases. If you are after competitive phrases do 300 stop and go for higher quality links for a while, whilst occassionally back grounding the free directories to keep things thicking over. I dont think ive ever done over 300 for any one site. |

It would be worth spending a time to look for quality directories and get listed on it, than having too many spammy directories that you need to spend a lot of time get listed, or looking for it but no significant effect in terms of traffic, rankings and relevance.

Submitting your site to directories is worthy. Here is the list of free directory.

thanks for the input guys.
is it worth checking out these services that "automatically submit to 300+ directories" (for a fee, obviously)? |

automatic submission of directories is not advisable...your site might get listed on an unrelated category...

lots of submission is not that advisable because some search engine will wonder how such a new site is able to make tons of submission in just a few days...
