Free Directories
A few days ago someone had started an awesome thread with a list of directories. This was a great tool and I have that list saved in a text file. Thanks to the author of that post.
Most of the directories on the list were paid sites however. I am looking for a list of FREE DIRECTORIES that might serve as a first step in free link development. Any posts appreciated.

Thanks Relaxzoolander,
I am starting to see that they all cost $20 - $60 on average and that there are a whole bunch of them at that price range, which I should probably build into a base cost for all e-commerce clients.
This is just the beginning... there are many more market-specific directories out there as well. I'm not suggesting that anyone submit to all of these sites, as I haven't checked into the value of each site. Its just a starting point :-)
Honestly I dont think the 50bux you spend on a directory is very worth it. Considering you'll only convert a handful of users since directories dont recieve that much traffic. Spend the 50 bux in adwords or overture. Less $ per conversion. No SE puts any special interest on your site because your submitted to some directory. Most are all low PR with redirect you-to-hell-and-back links.
I personally put less value on a directory that makes you pay for a listing. What is the money for??? I know! To pay the server bills because the advertising on the site doesn't get any traffic or clicks. Joeant.com is garbage, dmoz is garbage, Yahoo is garbage. Directories are a thing of the past and they'll end as old news just like webrings very soon.
