Hi, I am new to seo. People told me that listing your site on web directories is useful. I type web directory in google but find many web directories need fee. Anybody can tell me a list of free web directories?

Directories are of not much use these until you are listed in Yahoo or Dmoz

If you want to Succeed in Seo . Just Concentrate on Genuine Content and Quality Back links and yes Social Bookmarking these days is also helpfull if done with proper strategies

I think he is right. Most of them are worthless when thinking about backlinks. If you want some clicks, such services like tagomatic.com (english) or odir.org (german, but in alpha state) may help. Just find your biggest competitor in this directories and add your site to the 'sites like' section. It worked perfectly for some of my projects, specially in the startup phase.

will that work for a b2b site?

Depends on the bussiness. I dont think that prime business clients will use such directories. But its good, if there are only few competitors on the market and the customers dont know them all. You surely know the case that you know one but dont know where to find others which offer the same goods.

more wasted effort here too....sigh...

okay, I'm done with these get-rich-quick types of posting OPs....

wont bother reading or commenting on them anymore....and the OPs will be added to my "bozo filter" too!

Tagomatic.com might have been OK in the past, but if you add your url there now you will be listed against advertisements for the likes of online poker and Russian sex-chat adverts, so be careful.

so mu question is.. Is there ANY value to submitting to directories.. My site is new and in all honesty, I want to gain some traction

There's (some) value in every link you can get to your website... but (free) directory submissions is not the most valuable use of time in seo terms.
Check the "new to seo" link below my sig' and look for "linkbuilding / linkbaiting" links in that thread; that'll give you the "heads up" on the latest thinking re: free directories (and some great alternatives).
