Does Yahoo help you that much?

Hi,one of my clients is a hotel based in edinburgh and the hardest keyword to get ranked high on is "Hotel Edinburgh". I checked all the other sites on the first and second page and I think they are all listed on yahoo directoy. I'm currently on the third page with my site: http://www.hotelceilidh-donia.co.uk - Hotel Ceilidh-donia

If i go in the direcoty will I rise up to the second or first page?

Thanks

Being placed in the yahoo directory can only achieve 1 benefit, and thats being found in the Yahoo! directory, simple as that. Im sure people have run controlled tests and whatnot with regards to that exact question, and purely and simply, the only extra gains got from the listing was the traffic using the Directory, no SERPS improvment unfortunately.

Some sites will gain a fair amount of traffic from the Yahoo! directory, others very little, some none at all, its purely market dependant.

Again, there are no absolutes in SEO. Could it help? Yes, could it hlep alot? Yes, if everyone else is doing it, will it help you? Marginally. Will it not help? Maybe.

Yahoo directory listings only hurt your seo campaign because they force your listings to display dry directory text - a big disadvantage in a search engine where you have to get someone's attention under 4 paid results anyway.

I kept hearing about how it wouldnt be worth it to be in the Yahoo D, but being the hard headed newbie who has a boss thats all about letting me learn by trial and error, i paid the fee and got added. Before i got added, i ranked horribly in the directory. I mean, horrible. I was top ten on almost all my KWs in Google, and lucky to be in the top 100 in Yahoo. About 4 weeks after i got listed in Yahoo, my Yahoo rankings went through the roof. From out of no where, my KWs shot to the first page, all of them and then some.
Now, i have no proof that its because of my Yahoo Directory listing, but it sure seems that way, at least on my site. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe not. I believe it worked for me, but you know these search engines, we cant prove a thing and as a result, there will be some that says it works, some that says it doesnt. Basically, your client needs to decide if he wants to spend the 300 bucks and give it a shot.

So many times I have been tempted to apply for Yahoo directory - and I am still not sure. Maybe after my first year in business I will consider it more seriously - reinvest some income.

It just seems to much. But then. I receive about 85% of traffic from Google, so if Yahoo matched this, then I would be doubling my web revenue in theory. Tricky though..

Can more people provide examples please? Especially results for UK based websites, i.e. .co.uk sites.

I've also thought many times if it would be worth it for me to submit to the Yahoo directory...Any opinions on whether it's a good idea for a Christian art website (also a Yahoo store by the way) to be included in the directory? Thanks for any suggestions.

Faith

Ahhh... I remember when the Directory was THE way to explore the web.

*sigh*

Now? Not so much.

If you are in the directory, it might increase exposure, which could lead to people linking to your site. But I doubt that for a hotel.
