Yeah, I just read the article. Soon all our SEO efforts will be simple since there will eventually only be one search engine. This bites! :-(

Its certainly looking that way. Of course its always possible that Microsoft will just gobble everyone like they usually do.

A great thing
Call me weird but I see this as a good thing. Why you may ask...Competition my friend. Now that Yahoo bought overture...this will mean Yahoo will go back to inktomi results (not googles) Now yahoo will have its own results and so will google not the same results anymore. Msn will probally get rid of Ink and oveture results and us its own results as stated here with its own spider. What will aol do they use Overture and google what will they drop or stay with both. This will make the SE world better for us and the end user. For us because more to Optimize for not just google anymore. For the enduser becuase more of a broader search just not google and Oveture everywhere..Just my 2 cents. |

Just a question, but why would Yahoo having bought Overture affect Yahoo's decision in using Inktomi for their results. Yahoo was planning on using Inktomi's results anyway.
AOL doesn't even use Overture, just Google. I just see it as being one BIG huge monopoly now. There is now a LOT less competition. (Fast, AllTheWeb, Altavista, Inktomi and Overture are now all owned by Yahoo!). This takes a big chunk out of the "once-was" competition. Just my two-cents. :-) |

i think yahoo will move over to overture - inktomi and possible their directory results (with an improved algo)
whether they manage to improve user searchability in doing so is another matter - though i do think that they will profitfrom it a great deal and it will increase their usership. MSN will definately come in with their own algo (as tested) and im sure they will not miss out on their own PPC set up/buy one. Maybe looksmart!? |

Looksmart would be a good choice for MSN.

they could move fr it but i they may have problems purchasing a company as such for dominance issues
Also LS's back end is powered by Inktomi - which make things interesting |
