I've been watching these forums for several years and many of the threads about sites being dropped.... Yep, people who share the articles from their own sites with others or those who build sites full of shared artcles written by others.

Article syndication is not a good way to get valuable links and not a good way to get valuable content.

EGOL, how do I get (fresh) valuable content/links to my site then? It's a ecommerce site, and articles would look out of place if i start publishing them on my site. What I started doing is writing articles and submitting them to directories .. linking back to my site. So, I am not re-publishing my articles.. is there a problem with that?

Filling your website with great content is the most valuable about getting traffic.

But posting to other directories is something that has its own value.

If you run a new and small website, your rankings will be low at first no matter how good your content is. It takes time for search engines to evaluate good material and quality websites (with the way they do it)

Submitting an original - valuable article to a directory that has allready some decent traffic will get your post high on search results. This could lead to people finding your article and then finding your website. It is not about passing PR. it is about giving people the chance to findig your website throug another valuable website.

So go and find drectories that can do that.

You can have a blog on your ecommerce site. Post the articles on there, maybe... I remember Aignam did a post about blog tips, and said they were an ideal platform to test linkbait.

Lb1878 agrees: Definitely the ticket. Great article from Aignam too!
