Benefits of Yahoo Directory

Hi Everybody,

Can anyone who has had a listing in the Yahoo Directory tell me if it has made a large difference in terms of their Yahoo search ranking and the number of backlinks they get from other sites copying the directory data?
I, like many others, am contemplating shelling out the $299 fee but want to make sure that it will be worth it.

Thanks,
Kevin

like a month ago i had a huge diffrent in the srep if your domain was in the directory now I really don't know after the last update.

But links from DMOZ and YAHOO directory surely improve your ranking in google.

I was accepted in the Y! directory 2 days ago. And it had an instant effect on the rankings. The negative is that you lose control over your Title tag.

The thing is, if you have a poorly developed site the Y! directory won't improve your ranking. But if it is good then submission through the Y! directory will make you a trusted site in Yahoos human eyes. Basically, once a Yahoo employee sees that you are not spam you get the "new site" quaranteen period removed.

So inclusion into the Yahoo directory helps out the search engine rankings, but how about in terms of the number of back links you receive? Do other webmasters use the Yahoo directory data as much as DMOZ?

Did I really spell it "quaranteen"? Never listen to a guy who can't spell.

Just to update, that site I was referring to dropped lost its rank in the last Yahoo update. So I'm in limbo as to how much a D! listing will help now. I'll have to wait a couple weeks to see if it pops back up.

Ha ha, I've seen some great spelling errors on this forum. Since so many people are from other countries on this board, I feel like I have to read words phoenetically sometimes.

Please keep me updated on whether or not your site goes back up in the Yahoo rankings...

$300 is a lot of money to spend on a Yahoo directory listing (especially for a starving grad student), and I want to make sure that it will be worth it.

EGOL makes a very important point in that thread about how entering the Yahoo Directory will replace your Title tag in the Y! organic listings with (most likely) your company name.

Title tags are extremely important on getting someone to click your SE listing in the first place. So this is a major downfall of being in the Yahoo D!

I´ve had a site added to the Yahoo directory recently and after a couple of weeks I noticed a significant positive ranking effect. So yes, being listed in the Yahoo directory with a good site title and description can be very beneficial.
