Are directories necessary for SEO?

I have not had the time to submit my sites manually to directories, and have been getting decent links elsewhere. I am wondering if links from directories will give my serps a noticeable increase.

From my experience they don't hugely affect your SERPs. But they're definitely worth having (a link is a link after all). There are some decent directories out on the web though, they have some value.

NB: Any exposure is good exposure.

hi,

site submission in directories is very important to generate your traffic i.e link popularity. Did you know, after submission of my site (www.googlepageone.com) in many directories, it got decent back link popularity even page rank also.

So, submit your site manually in relevent category for your site. It is very important to vision in Google SERP.

Thanks,

Yes directories can be worthwhile although most are not, concentrate on topical directories, so if your website is about accounting, look for accounting related directories. Most free directories are not worth the time they take to submit to.

I think I have read this in other forum, Anyways, Directories has a big help to SEO in terms of backlinks but the problem is it takes a long time to get your site listed. My advice is think of some ways to get your site listed faster and do link trade while waiting for your site to be listed on the directories.

Them don't help "huge" for SERPs when you submit is not enough, i got #2 for more keywords after 2 months by submitting on more directories only

Directory inclusions would provide you value so long as you make the proper selection of which directory to submit to and as to what category to have your site listed on. This is very useful for new sites to get some needed backlinks.

Skip the ones that require reciprocal links and link farms. Best is to check on the sites listed to see if they are in the right category - this is a good indication that the directory is well-maintained.
