I made the near fatal error of submitting my site to Yahoo only to discover that most of the text on our pages were done as images, NOT LEGIBLE BY SEARCH ENGINES! Granted Yahoo is not an engine, but our site does NOT come in anywhere in the results for any keywords related to our site, period.
We are nearly done fixing this problem but need to resubmit to Yahoo so that our pages can be properly indexed and so that people will find out web site when searching for our type of content. Is there any chance that with the new changes to the site, our rankings will improve? Please advise since I've read that getting your page reindexed is difficult if not impossible on Yahoo. Are you referring to the Yahoo search engine or the Yahoo Directory?
The Yahoo search engine currently pulls results from Google. So your listing in Yahoo's results will mirror your results in Google's results. You do not need to submit your site anywhere if Google is spidering your site. Just get a few good links and Google will update their database fairly soon after any changes you make to your site. Recently, Yahoo has been experimenting with replacing the Google results with Inktomi results for the search function. The same scenario applies with Inktomi, although they also offer a PFI program if you want to burn some cash in exchange for guaranteed spidering. If you were referring to the Yahoo Directory, it does not matter whether your site is using images or text because your directory listing is written by a Yahoo Directory editor. HTH!

Thanks for the reply Bernard. This is a real education for me. I thought the Yahoo engine actually pulled results from it's directory only. Now that I know it uses Google's results, I can focus on making my site rank highly for Google.
All I have to do now is get some good links to my site. Ill be working on this soon. Thanks. |

Hi, you mention about Inktomi and Yahoo using these results.
This worries me as I have never done too well with Inktomi and MSN in particular. What does Inktomi look at when spidering a website. Does it look at header, content etc or is it something different? |
