A hard drive crash??
I'm sorry for sounding a little narky on this but I find it hard to believe that a backup drive cannot be thrown into the machine in literally 10 minutes. Is DMOZ.org hosted at a legit datacenter or in a bedroom / someones house?? I would have thought that with the level of importance the ODP carries that it would have been hosted in a location where hotswaps could be done promptly.

>> I'm sorry for sounding a little narky on this Oh, we're used to much more narky posts around the Web BTW, I can't disagree with you. Unfortunately, aside from the couple of staff members who are doing a great job with a huge list of improvements (not only with public-side ones, but with internal ones, too), we don't get that many resources and attention as we'd like to. >> Is DMOZ.org hosted at a legit datacenter or in a bedroom / someones house A little internal research recently resulted in this page, already posted by gringo in another thread Ah, dmoz is up right now. |

That is too funny! I do find it surprising though that for a website that is considered so important to the rest of the web, how often its performance is either very poor or completely down.

Netscape should be able to buy a few more servers and more bandwidth... They do have the money...

Over the last week of two I've found it's down or busy at least half the time I try it. Also, none of the web sites I've submitted to it in the last year have been indexed. I'm finding it kind of useless.
I also found some comments a few days ago [not sure how true they are] that seemed to imply that DMOZ editors get bribed to add sites, or the editors put their own site in an not the competition. |

"Human edited" so mistakes or wrong doings happen, however those kind of things are picked up eventually and dealt with. |
