Why dmoz directory is so important ?

i am here with a question.
My question is why Dmoz directory is so important that every seo expert running after this.

Is this not possible for a seo expert to give a website good position in search engine.

I worked on 100+ project, all having good position in the google.
But i never run after dmoz,yahoo etc.

So my question is why dmoz is important.?
Is there additional benefit of dmoz ?

Please explain.

It's still worth the submission, it's free after all...

Yeah I always submit my sites. It's free normally better then allot of free links you can get out there. but of course I don't worry about it if I don't get in.

Takes about 5 mins if that to submit a site. worth in my opinion.

I don`t really believe that DMOZ is that much important for our ranking in Google. Also, have in mind that I have submitted a website before 8 months and still not answer from it. The probably choose on random principle or I don`t know.

Its just DMOz has very good reputation, and a backlink coming from a reputed directory can help a lot. Second thing, DMOz helps a lot in driving traffic to a website.

That's a view that might have been correct last century and even in the early part of the last decade but I doubt if it's true today and most professional SEOs would agree with me.

The people who claim it now are those thinking that ancient advice is still correct and failing SEOs looking for excuses .
