What is this? dmoz.org is not cached no more?
Hello Mates,
Any one observed that ODP(www.dmoz.org) is not cached any more. Check cache:www.dmoz.org. It seems to be very strange thing. Can any one tell me what can be the possible reason behind it? Thanks in Advance, Khali

Could be something innocent like the recent Google update.... I presume you meant a [cache:www.dmoz.org] search on Google anyway.
BTW if you search for the domain, you get Quote:
(my bold) Click on Cached and the cache is still there.

Yes it is. But only when you type dmoz.org in Google search box, click on the cached option from there.
But when we type cache command directly, it doesn't comes. Moreover when opn www.dmoz.org directly in explorer and click on "cached snapshot of the page" from Google toolbar, then it also doesn't comes. Do you not think it's quite interesting Please check with all the options, may be it's cached now |

Well may be it's temp thing, but after two days of this posting, I still not able to see the cache of dmoz.org. Now it's more than two days.
I know we can't exactly know why it's happening, but what ever be the reason, it's very interesting Quote:

Type in dmoz into Google, the first result is a page from webworkshop!
A Google penalty perhaps? |

As per usual the facts get in the way of a good story
The simple facts are that DMOZ has put in a series of 301 redirects as DMOZ was available at dmoz.com and dmoz.org and www.dmoz.com and www.dmoz.org and other mirrors. There was also a recent 302 hijack of DMOZ that was recently fixed by Google. This simply means that Google has to reindex the entire site again and recalculate PR etc etc -- as with any other site that puts in a 301, this is usually a temporary glitch until the indexing issues resolve. Thanks for clearing that up (but I do like a bit of controversy!) Just noticed there's still at least one more mirror being indexed: http://core-n02.dmoz.aol.com:30080/ |
