It doesnt need development, again, the question begs, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! Quote:
Again, this bears no relevence to automated emails to inform editors and submittors alike of their application statuses. Hmmm, ive had to remove you from my ignore list to read that, what a waste of my time  |

Dmoz is already overwhelmed by unreviewed sites, imagine if the editors had to tell each webmaster why their site was reject? |

The keyword in my posts was and still is 'automation', automated emails have been around since the day Dmoz was born into this world (a sad day..) its just a shame the system is so out of date and out of touch with the internets needs in 2006. ****EDITS**** So you see my point, which it's obvious you do not, I dont expect 'the almighty' to give specifics as to why a site or editorial application was refused, rather just fire off an email saying 'Your application/submission was/wasn''t successful'. I know sometimes they will inform you of editorial applications, I know this as I apply almost on a daily basis, sometimes when declined i get an email, sometimes I dont, only when I get accepted im my new category with my new alias will I get a message saying congratulaitons blah blah blah yadda yadda. Your question is not clear to me. Do you mean: Is it allowed to suggest deeplinks of your site? The answer is: No, this is never allowed and seen as spam. Please note that editors may decided to list deeplinks if they think it is of value to the directory. Do you mean: Is it allowed to suggest your site more than once? The answer is: It depends on the situation. Normaly it is not allowed to do so. But there are exceptions. If your site has both a thematical and regional relevance it might be suggested to both these categories. If your site is in several languages it might be suggested to all of these languages. |

Again a question that is not totaly clear to me but I'll try to answer what I think you were asking. Is it necessary to submit a site to DMOZ? No, but it can be helpfull. Many editors also use other sources to find sites to list. Your site can be found through any of these sources. Genuine (we call it unique) content is a must. No broken links? Ofcourse you should not have any. Else your visitors will be leaving your site very quickly. To many of them and DMOZ will not list the website. Meta tags? Totaly not relevant for DMOZ. Keywords? DMOZ is not interested in keywords. We have our own guidelines for describing sites. Like title (which is the link) is always the name of the company, person or website. Sitemap? Please do not suggest it to DMOZ. It is of no use to us. Suggest the main url only. The rest of the site must be linked from there. If we can't find the content starting on the mainpage of the site neither can your other visitors. |

It is easier and more advantagus not to inform people of the status or outcome of a submission automated or not, with DMOZ not having enough editors as it is - all it brings is hassle - if for example a submission was rejected all that is going to happen is "why was it rejected" "what can i do to get it accepted" and with a shortage of editors dont you think the time spent answering questions would be better spent building the directory? |

One of our staff members even vowed to become the editor for the category but he was denied. I am surprised that denial was very fast and not the denial of the website. We have waited for more than six months. Time to reapply and check again.

I submitted my personal directory to DMOZ in early April and earlier this month I've found that it has already been added to the directory. But I must say DMOZ submission is a bitch since that is the only site that got included into the directory in many years.

3 posts in a row all complaining about theír sites not getting listed:
1. DMOZ is not a submission processing and listing service for webmasters 2. Why do those complaining not post the url of the site in question - they may not have met DMOZ inclusion guidelines, so without the URL we wont know. |

hmmm... maybe his application was pathetic and the website wasn't all that bad... Might I suggest reading the guidelines before re-submitting an application... you will find by doing that tad bit of homework that you understand the mistakes you (they) did the first time. It also helps applying because you want to aid in developing the category you are applying to -- not because you want to just list your website.
