I would apply to be a DMOZ editor if they can guarantee at least $3,000/mo in payoffs. Is that possible?

lol.. Why would you think an editor would see your post and break DMOZ rules and include you? Also that editor would have to be the editor of at least a vaguely relevent category.
I s'pose the world is always going to be full of people who want something for nothing.. You could always try an interesting experment.. offer say $300 and see if you get any pm's from editors

Just post a project on a freelancing site. People are successful in doing this. Choose a bidder who has EDITALL privileges. Not the DMOZ way, but who really cares.
BTW: Don't pay much for it. Its value is limited, especially if the listing in which you are to appear has 100 other outbound links.

Do you actually read messages before you post a reply to them? He is asking about being an editor, not getting a site listed. |

Repeated rejections tends to mean repeated flaws in your idea of "editing style" and/or "listing selection processes". If you don't get a clear indication from your rejection notice "not to re-apply" - then you are likely acceptable if you figure out what editing skill you lack... 99 times out of 100 not reading the guidelines is why you lack in that skills area... and the only thing you need to do to be acceptable. Your application is a superb example of the desires to edit; 1. if for example your idea of editing is "the only way I can get listed"... that will likely show in your application... and obviously a rejection should apply since this is not an acceptable editing skillset. 2. if you just made a mistake that is noted in the editing guidelines - this can cause a rejection - but you can fix that and therefore acceptable in the future.

cbp: Thanks for the notation. No, I do not make it a practice to quickly post. You will note that my history is to edit and redit all of my posts. I edit and reedit them because of dyslexic tendencies. This thread threw me. Thanks. Last edited by evmikna : September 21st, 2007 at 11:43 PM. |

Thanks Fathom for your detailed reply. I agree 100% with your opinion. As a matter of fact, I had taken UTMOST care while drafting my editor application and did ensure that ALL guidelines listed were complied with. In retrospect, I'm tempted to feel some of existing editors are just plain INSECURE Appreciate your detailed answer - Ability Designs |

Cool! Rep points for screwing up. Maybe I should do that more often :-) Thanks gazzahk. We see so many threads "how do I get in DMOZ" "help me get in DMOZ" that our brains (presuppositions) don't let us read clearly at times. It may be a combination mental case and lazy one in my situation. Then add to all of the the crazy language barrier. Unclear writing leads to unclear thinking....unclear reading......posting incorrectly. Humans, got to love being one. Now that I think about it, my original post may not have been too far off. If one wants to become an editor in DMOZ, he may be able to pay a freelancing DMOZ super editor to approve your application :-) Once you are in DMOZ as an editor, you have people looking over your shoulder giving you help along the way. Of course, this is said pretty much "tongue in cheek." But it would work! Last edited by evmikna : September 22nd, 2007 at 12:12 PM. |

Hello! If your applications are meeting all the criteria then the problem may actually lie with the category you are applying to for editting privileges. It is best to apply to edit a very small category, I think perhaps with about 10 sites in it. Once you have gained editing privileges you can then build up this category and then apply for a slightly larger category. Once you get on to dmoz it is possible to seek advice from the forum which is a very handy way to get tips on how to improve your category and when to apply for new editing rights. Also before you submit your application double check that the sites you are including are not already on the directory. Hope this helps! Regards, Clare. |
