This may be slightly off topic. Mine is not a commercial site (http://usandeep.tripod.com) and I thought the open directory (dmoz.org) might be a good place to get some high PR back links. but these guys doesnt seem to even look at the submissions and give a descent replies, atleast in the directory I submitted my site to (recreation => travel => travelogues => asia => india )
Anyone has any experience with dmoz? how abt applying to become an editor? I tried Zeal (zeal.com) also, but their google ranking is not as good as dmoz |

If the category you submitted to does not have a editor - it could be quite a while.
Best to move on the other things, and it will or will not happen.

If the category you applied to does not have a named editor - it means nothing whatsoever - ignore it - forgot it -it's false information. The presense or abcense of an editor name gives you no indication of what is happening in the category.
Most of the categories I edit in do not have named editor. I did probably did over 600 edits in the last 2 weeks, maybe 2% of those were in categories that have my name on. In addition I was editing in some categories that have another editors name on, and that editor has not done any edits for 3 months. |

Google updates their directory on their own schedule. I think it goes some thing like this Joe: "Hey Fred, when is the last time we updated the directoy?" Fred: "umm, ya got me." Joe: "Okay... I'm bored so I think I'll do it now."
Thats my guess any way ;) |

Thats about as an accurate description of Google as I've seen
I think last year it was : Fred: Hey did we update the ODP directory listings this year -- Joe: No, I thought you did -- Fred: Oops, better run it soon, in case someone notices. |

looks like joe and fred got the job done, because it appears the google directory has at least updated some of the pages with PR bars. does anyone have an idea when the previous Google directory update was? trying to form some kind of time frame till the next one.

I think the last one was from around June 20 [my vague memory] and the current one I think is from July 27.
From one of your previous questions - in an ideal situation, your site got added on June 18, ODP dumped out the directory starting on June 19, and had it finished on June 20. Google took a copy and had it installed by June 25. [Made up dates but about right] If your site got added on June 19, it missed that cycle, and would not have got published until around August 3.
