ODP Now Has A Pop-Up

Oooo nooooo

When I visit http://dmoz.org I get a pop-under. Is this just some shareware / adware thing I have installed, or can someone confirm this terrible news???

Hi Darrin

No, I can´t confirm it. The site looks normal, or what you understand under pop-under?

Everytime I got to the dmoz.org page I am getting a pop-under window for printers.

Here is the source of the window that loads:

Code:
<html><head><title>Special Offer</title></head><body onLoad="setTimeout('this.focus()', 5000)">
<center><IFRAME NORESIZE="NORESIZE" FRAMEBORDER="0" WIDTH=120 HEIGHT=600 MARGINWIDTH="0" MARGINHEIGHT="0" SCROLLING="NO" SRC="http://ads.flashtrack.net/v3/show_ad.php?iframe|b|600|1FF10EF5-30C0-4E09-BAFF-7502940E3F6A|25001|0|http://dmoz.org/"></IFRAME>
</center></body>
</html>

And this is the image that loads in the window:

I wonder why only on the ODP page it happens then, also. I can normally see those spybots running under the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager in Windows XP ... But I'm not seeing any strange processes right now.

I am not an expert but the message you receive ads flashback.net is defenitely something spyish

http://www.ads.flashtrack.net/

if you have adaware beware they are out of date and useless, I had adaware and changed to spybot which tracked 76 culprits that adaware missed.

Sure enough ..

In my program files directory there was a directory called "flt" and inside of this were 2 files... they were the culprits...

Thing is I seen them about a month ago but I've never seen any popup's before. I urge eveyone to go look now for thos crappy thing, I've never allowed anythignt o be installed, so how on earth did they get there??

Please excuse, although I'm good at SEO / web marketing, I've never ventured into this area... anyone able to point me at a URL with a lot of good reading on this matter, and how can I fight back.. I've always know it was an issue, and I have never been effected by it before because I'm always behind at least 3 firewalls at any one time!!

The only thing you can do is to keep your anti spyware up to date, every time you visit a site with banner on you sure get a cookie placed on your system!

Not sure if you did do the spybot (or similar) check, but believe you me you will have thousands of cookies all over your place.

just like anti virus software, keep updating regular the anti spysoftware and you will be most probably never bothered again.

just adding quickly a forum with experts on that matter

Most probably by either dowloading or installing a free software.
(that would be my guess, as they do have those things in their agreement license stating,[but who reads that?])

Send a message via AIM to nastynation
Who doesnt just click the next button. Those license things use too many big words. It hurts the brain.

Darrin it must be Spyware. I found this script:

2.9 GATOR UNTERMINIERT SUCHMASCHINEN
------------------------------------------
Die wegen unfairer Wettbewerbspraktiken und als Spyware bekannte
Software der Firma Gator, hängt sich als Pop-Under an
Suchmaschinen und Webverzeichnisse wie Google und Yahoo!
