New RDF dump available !

ODP has finally done a successful RDF dump including category id's ...
http://rdf.dmoz.org/

This should mean that Google will update their directory very soon (or maybe they'll wait until the next dance).

Gringo.

Okay here we go again You guys are hovering above me like gods and I'm like Eve trying to figure out which fig leaf to wear I have no clue what this is all about and whether it is something I can utilize or not. I even went to http://www.dstc.edu.au/cgi-bin/redirect/rd.cgi?http://archive.dstc.edu.au/RDU/reports/RDF-Idiot/ "An Idiot's Guide to the Resource Description Framework" and it's scary to think I don't even make it up to idiot! ops:
Please give this to me in layman's terms: "RDF provides interoperability between applications that exchange metadata and is targeted for many application areas including; resource description, site-maps, content rating, electronic commerce, collaborative services, and privacy preferences." "The objective of RDF is to support the interoperability of metadata. RDF allows descriptions of Web resources - any object with a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) as its address - to be made available in machine understandable form. This enables the semantics of objects to be expressible and exploitable" Exactly what type of applications are we talking here? Is the metadata like meta tags? Is this just something for dynamic pages? It says for XML. Can someone refer me to a site that would illustrate this in action or is it like a behind the scenes script? Also

How does this effect Google?
Is this something I should even worry about at my level or should I just go ahead and eat that dang apple and forget about the blissfulness of paradise and naivety?

No this is nothing that you can really utilize. The only help this will be to you is if you have sites in the ODP which have been added since September. Sites added before September should be already in the Google Directory, but sites added after have not been added to the Google directory because they were not in the ODP's latest RDF Dump.

The RDF dump is used by sites that use the ODP data. So unless you want to run a directory, the RDF dump is no use to you in it's RDF form - It just means that Google (who does use it) can now be fresher!

FWIW, a new RDF dump is being generated right now, and should be out right after Easter.

Actually that would be Egghead from the old Batman TV show with Adam West ;-)

Here's to hoping that Google (and AskJeeves for that matter who has not updated in MONTHS) pick up the new RDF.
