Links with Stars in DMOZ

I am just wondering why some websites that are listed in the DMOZ are listed with a Star? Like this one, Study in the USA, http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education...ional_Students/

Thanks,

M

I think those indicate popular or authoritative sites. (a favorite of some sort)

The *'s mean that it has been "cooled" by the editor - i.e. they consider it something "special" in that category. There can be more than one (although not too common) and more frequently, there are none.

alek

Cooled sites - http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html#cool

An oft musunderstood feature, that in general should be avoided by new editors. I've done over 10,000 edits, I cooled one site my first week, and then told by a senior editor that I should not have used the feature, and I uncooled it, and never did another.

yep, most editors I've talked to aren't too big on cooling sites.

is the cool in dmoz somehow related to the cool in yahoo? they seem to coincide quite often

these sites are reviewed by editors, I believe they can do whatever they can, however since most sites are rejected, the sites listed there should be really good ones

Why have your own opinion, when the ODP facts tell you what they are?
