No, theres no trick, DMOZ is not a listing service, its actualy the job of an editor to go out and find websites to list, submissions from the public are helpfull in bringing a site to attention but even then it might not be listable. Listing can happen in a matter of minutes or it could take years, it depends a lot on the cat your submitting it to and if there is an active editor with a keen interest in that cat you submitted to.

Yes - become an editor and reduce the overall number of outstanding submissions which increases the chance that your submission will be edited.

Bad idea... just wastes other editor's time reviewing an application for someone that just wishes a faster listing... how is that helpful?

Because they may review your one listing but you end up editing 1000+ sites and being as valued by DMOZ as your eventual listing is valued by you.

It all comes down to how much value you put on that listing and how much time you are prepared to commit to get it.

If everyone who took the time to post complaining about the delays in getting submissions reviewed were able to do 1000 edits then there would be no problem!

Why are you doing that for? Why bother checking?

What if you find out that:
1) You are listed --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do.
2) You are waiting to be reviewed --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do.
3) You were moved to another category --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do.
4) You were rejected --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do.

Submit once and then forget about it.

What are the tricks

The tricks to getting listed quicker are:

1. Have a site that is so damn good, it will add value to the category (if it does not have something that sites already listed have, then why would a DMOZ editor want to list it for?)

2. Submit it ONCE to the ONE best category (NO category is without an editor)

3. Write a perfect guideline compliant title and description (ie no marketing hype; this is the best way to get an editors attention ahead of all the other sites in the pool of suggested sites).

4. Move on; forget about it; get over it; there is nothing more you can do (except improve the site).

OK, what are the tricks?

I can answer that one for you. Become an editor of your chosen category, and when another webmaster tries to add a site that meets all the criteria and is kick ***, reject it!

Am I wrong? Please someone correct me if so, because if have submitted sites in the past that have been legitimate sites, no affiliates just good honest websites.

Whats the point in submitting to dmoz? Try the lottery, you will have more success.

Its seems clear to me that certain editors have their own agendas. Anyone?

Yes you are wrong. Any editor that does that will be removed. They may find that their own site is also removed and all the competitors they tried to keep out might get added.

If you have some evidence that this is happening, please provide the evidence or stop making silly insinuations based on your lack of knowledge of how DMOZ works.

No, he isn't wrong. That's pretty much how it works. I did provide evidence a few years ago and the complaint was closed without a word.

They protect their own.

If it was closed after investigation with no action being taken, then you were wrong in your allegations.

JakeCop disagrees: Making a judgement without seeing the evidence, you sound like a Dmoz editor... think I may be
right.

You deduced all that without knowing any of the facts? You must be the best investigator in the world. Who shot JFK by the way?

If "no word was ever given" how'd you know it was ever closed?

You "ASSUMED" RIGHT?

...that's your evidence... assumptions.
