Is It Worth The Hassle?

I have been trying for over a year to get a few of my websites included on the DMOZ directory with no success. Is it really worth the trouble?

Dan

Dmoz is good directory if you add any site in DMOZ it doesn't mean that your seo work has finished do some on page optimization and start quality link building for your website.

What have you been doing to make it a hassle? It only takes a matter of minutes to suggest a site. Why is that a hassle? If you have suggested your site(s) more than once, then you have only harmed your chances of getting listed.

I suggest you invest a couple minutes and read DMOZ's rules and then follow them...

Doesn't matter if you follow the rules or not. In the end, it depends solely upon who edits it.

Here's my easy, 2 step guide to DMOZ
1. Take the 5-10 minutes to submit your site to DMOZ
2. Get on with your life and forget about DMOZ unless you have a new site that requires step #1

Cool

DMOZ is owned by Google. The back link and PR can help in your SEO campaign, but as mentioned you still have to get more good quality back links from other sources.

Look at the site in #1 position for your chosen keywords - view their back links which will give you a good idea of how many you should aim for to obtain a top ten position.

Hope this helps,
Koolsteve

How long would you say does it take for The DMOZ directory to review a site after you submit to it. It has been about 4 months now since I submitted my site and it still isn't there.

Getting accepted in DMOZ is all about luck... you're lucky if the editor will check your submission, and you're even luckier if he'll like what you submitted... until then, don't expect anything.

Should I resubmit my site and see if I have better luck?

For the average person it is as the average site isn't of quality to get accepted.
Dmoz is to a great degree looking for quality in sites, if yours is lacking you will likely not get listed, however it can take months just to get reviewed as previous threads in this forum will tell you.

I don't submit anymore, I have had a number of sites end up in Dmoz without even being submitted so I would worry more about making the site of value and getting in google and let Dmoz pick you up if an editor finds it. Of course submitting doesn't take that long

This company has two websites. One is on DMOZ and the other one so far hasn't been as lucky. There isn't much content but what is there is good and very pertinent to the product that we sell.

Anywhere from minutes to never. Editors are under no obligation to even look at suggestted sites when looking for sites to build a category. Suggested sites are just one source (usually the worst source) for them to find sites to add.
