How long dies it take to get into D Bloody MOZ? - Revised
Hi guys
Back in July, I posted this thread: http://forums.seochat.com/open-directory-project-13/how-long-does-it-take-to-get-in-d-bloody-144718.html Well, I've resubmitted my sites once since then. Guess what... I'm still waiting!!!!!!!!! |

If the editor chooses to use the the pool of suggested sites (and they are under no obligation to do so) when looking for sites to add to a category and they sort them by date (most editor do), all you have done is move your site back down to the bottom! |

http://forums.seochat.com/open-directory-project-13/dmoz-accepting-submissions-again-then-165971.html Maybe I misinterpreted, but from what I understood when I read the thread DMOZ lost their submission databases? After reading that I decided to re-submit to make sure I was definitely back in the pile... Wrong thing to do? |

Since DMOZ doesn't take money for submitting sites, I guess it is not supposed to list "every" site submitted, neither give an explanation for sites that are "not listed" and it doesn't really care if you're pissed off by that or not.
My policy - Submit and forget! A Dmoz link won't bring along dramatic changes in your site's organic ranks. So don't treat is as a Magic Link but an above average directory link. That's it!

If you pissed of with the service that you seem to be expecting DMOZ to be providing you, why not ask for a refund? Last edited by cbp : January 28th, 2008 at 12:18 AM. |

Fair enough. But this part of the forum is made for people to express their thoughts on DMOZ. I understand and agree with what you've said, but I'm in this part of the forums to get answers - which I've now got... If I can't tell you guys my problems and thoughts on DMOZ - who else can I tell? I can't tell DMOZ because they won't even bother replying. By the way - I appreciate both cbp's and pro_seo's input on this topic. Maybe I am taking it a bit too seriously. |

What you have to remember with DMOZ is that you're suggesting your site for inclusion, not submitting it for a review.
When you suggest your site, there's no requirement that the category editor should review it. Some editors prefer to stick to finding websites themselves rather than looking in the suggested pool. If your website really is going to make for a useful inclusion, then there's a good chance that it'd find its way into DMOZ without you even suggesting it. I've had sites appear within a matter of days after suggesting them for inclusion, whilst the longest took over 3 years to appear (by which time I'd sold the business and the website, although it still had my Adsense publisher id on it ).DMOZ is intended to exist for the benefit of those searching its database for useful sites related to a particular topic. It's not intended to be a listing service for every site in that topic, nor does it have any duty to provide a service to webmasters the same as Pay for Review directories such as Yahoo! or any one of the 1000s of other paid directories.

Have you checked if the category your submitting to has an editor?
Have you looked to see the last time your category was updated? These may give you clues to why you are waiting so long. I don't usually recommend it, but you may want to contact the editor as well. In another thread I wrote about an editor mistakenly deleting my submission because he said I was the owner/partner of a site already listed...when I was actually just an advertiser of that site. |

The number one rule with Dmoz is make sure your site is finished, then submit, then wait, do not submit again, you just have to patient. Speed of submission depends on many factors such as amount of submissions in that category that are in the waiting list, I know many people say it took a few weeks but thats because the editor of that category had few submissions, while other categories are 100 times more popular.

How can you tell how recently a category has been updated? I don't see any easy way to determine this on most categories.
