ODP is not a search engine. Their index is updated in a regular base, if a volunteer editor is available for the category and if he does his job.

I submitted a new site to DMOZ on 22nd of May and it appeared on the list within 48 hours. I suppose it must depend on the editor of your particular topic.
My site still doesn't appear on the google directory. As a newbie I hope this isn't a stupid question! Does anyone know if the update of DMOZ into google happens for all topics at the same time? Or does google reject some websites from DMOZ?

No Google doesnt reject Sites out the DMOZ-Dump. But if you were banned from the Index, i dont know if they will reject you. But normally not.
