Foul play in Dmoz.org?

Is it common practice for a website to be removed from the DMOZ directory?

One of mine randomly disappeared, I didn't receive an email informing me. I'm certain I've broken no rules.

Hmmmm any ideas?

Is there any way to contact them and find out? I don't suppose there is, but it would be nice to know and also check there was no foul play.

DMOZ is a piece of crap. I've waited years to get my sites submitted, and still nothing. One of my competitors is obviously an editor and refuses admit me.

No worries though, DMOZ isn't a kill all. Now I rank at the top of the SERPS, and I'm sure that just tickles his ego.

Spend your time on quality optimization and it wont matter if you have a DMOZ link or not.

There are various reasons for your site no longer being visible in DMOZ. It could have been replaced by a different site that offers better content/resources on the same topic, or it may have changed and no longer be within the DMOZ guidelines (non-unique content, excessive advertising, etc, etc), or it could simply be a case that it's been moved to a different category and is currently awaiting review by an editor or greenbuster within that category if the editor that moved it doesn't have editing privileges there.

To immediately blame it on corruption within DMOZ does nobody any favours, least of all yourself. Take an objective view of the site -- are you absolutely 100% certain that it is good enough to warrant a DMOZ listing and that there are no other sites currently listed that offer the same thing?

You can always post a question about your site on dmoz-resources.com -- although it's not run by DMOZ there are editors that post there and they may well offer some constructive feedback.

There are no rules on this to break. The only way a site is removed is if it no longer as sufficient unique content to add value to the category.

99.9% of the allegations of foul play turn out to not be foul play.

I never jumped on the Dmoz bandwagon and I still rank well for all of the terms I go after. Its certainly not a necessity, my advice is just move on, you don't need it to rank well or to be an authority or get google site links.
