Editors on dmoz

So, do some people become editors on dmoz just to list their own selfish sites? Or has it stayed pretty clean?

Mike

Depending if they spelled properly, the sites are interesting, full of unique content etc...

Bbeeing myself an editor, I would say pretty clean.

Yeah I think they do a great job at editing on the ODP. The only thing I don't like about the directory is the stuff which editors have no control over, such as how technically poor the site is (it's really slow) and the law of freshness everytime I go back - How long since the look and feel has been changed over there!?!?!

My guess that most the people who apply do so because they want an in for their own sites and for the sites of friends...so I would guess that a few who get approved have the intent of self promotion?

It seems to me that the goal of an organization like DMOZ shouldn't be to eliminate self motivation, but to harness it. Even in the world of self promotion most people want to follow the rules and establish themselves as a respected expect, and not just a manipulator of the system.

I haven't applied to DMOZ the program is too slow. I've added sites to Zeal. I like their program...their process seems to be doing an okay job of self correction.

There have been a lot of complaints about slowness in DMOZ, in fact I've been waiting close to a year to get one of my sites in. Also, I've been seeing posts about taking montsh to become an editor.

For the record, I applied to be an editor last week, and it took me less than 12 hours to become accepted. I clearly indicted the web sites I owned, and used them to show why my application was a good one, I applied for a category that I have an interest in, but has no conflict of interest with my web sites.
