I can't imagine dmoz having a worthy adversary - I only find interesting information in dmoz - nowhere else (without hours of digging). Yahoo directory is not to be trusted (from a USER's point of view) as it's a paid inclusion directory - how can that be any good?
If there really is a microsoft equivelent, I'd guess it would be a "pay up and be included" affair too. No, dmoz has NO contenders. It's only the dollar-throwing seo community who doesn't like dmoz - isn't that strange? DMOZ's users love it (I know, I'm one of their many faithful users). Forget knocking dmoz - only SEO people do that. Look at it from a user's point of view: When looking for new ideas for content, do you ever go to dmoz? Do you ever look for education rather than the possibility of copying somebody else's hard work for the sake of a dollar? Ho-ho-ho, as Santa Clause once said... dmoz - don't kill the one source of information you're too stupid to realize could be the best free resource you ever needed! Just my O MCS x DMOZ RULES! But it's true. DMOZ's users cetainly don't knock it. In general then, I think we can say that it's only the people who are incapable of understanding it who knock it. When you see something for what it isn't and want what you think it can give you, you'll obvioulsy miss the whole point of the thing and ridicule yourself in your attempt to have what doesn't exist. (can't that be defined as a form of madness? Seems to me that it can my friends, seems to me that it can...) And this is the SEO understanding of a resource made available free of charge to those who use and cherish its contents. (I want all my sites listed 10 times in each category - AT LEAST!!!) lol MCS x Last edited by minicoopers : September 21st, 2005 at 03:39 PM. |

DMOZ started out with the best of intentions. Within the past few years, however, due to the ever growing expansion of online business, they have become kind of like the cool crowd in high school. You hate them until they let you in, then once you're in -- everything is great. Wait, didn't I used to be one of you geeks that can't get into DMOZ

WRONG: that's an SEO point of view and is, therefore, not relevant. DMOZ exists for it's users. DMOZ is still good - DMOZ is very, VERY good. Having your site included or not has absolutely nothing to do with it - the whole point is that it conatins an enormous amount of information - very, VERY useful information. SEO and DMOZ do not make an ideal marriage. The search for quality information marries well with DMOZ's contents. DMOZ is unbeatable in it's field. Forget knocking it or praising it from a site owner's point of view - see it as the fantastic resource that it is (or quit commenting on it). (not) just my O MCS x Last edited by minicoopers : September 22nd, 2005 at 03:50 PM. Reason: mmm, dmoz, can I have your babies? |
