DMOZ - Alternatives?
With one of my customers I have a site (produksite of major company), which I for that reason cannot get listed into DMOZ.
Of course this is very frustrating! So I am looking for alternatives. Any ideas? Or how do you deal with such sites? Just accept it? Of course we are in discussion with DMOZ-Editors, but I do not see a real opportunity there to get in :-( Reg, Birthe |

If you really think the site merits inclusion (i.e. it has good, original content with few affiliate links), submit it to DMOZ then after 3 weeks ask about its status at www.resource-zone.com.

We went already through that :-(
As to the DMOZ-Rules it should be able to be included (essential product information for the customer), but there's no categorie it fits (one is not for products, and we do not have a shop there, so no ability from that site)... Anyway, that's another discussion... Reg, Birthe

hi stuijts, are you looking for alternative directory to add your site there? if so I don't sure but maybe you could check GoGuides.org or JoeAnt directory? they are smaller directories but listing there could be good as well...
Also you always could apply for paid Zeal listing this would get your site visible on MSN and LookSmart. Hope that I understand you correctly and you look for other directories where you can list your site, if not I'm sorry. |

Yep, like that.
It's very frustrating to know, DMOZ is good for your PR, and to see, many sites use the DMOZ-Directory, and then just not be able to get listed there... That's why I'm looking for alternatives (that at least also do good to the PR) |

if your content is good you'll get good PR with time even if you're not listed in DMOZ... many sites have much better ranking then those which listed... and if you already have good unique conent you can always try encourage people to linkback to you... you can use method which I describe here http://www.seochat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1071 or if it's not fits your site concept you can try something else...
also listing in Yahoo also could improve your site's PR as data from Yahoo is used in many regional catalogs... |

Only one could be too many, if the only purpose of the site is to drive traffic to the affiliate site. The balance between unique and affiliate content is what is actually considered when evaluating a site for inclusion. |

You haven't mentioned an attempt at Yahoo for your client. Before you go after the minor directories try to go after express inclusion in hte Yahoo directory and thats as good as DMOZ in my opinion, mind you it isnt as satisfying if you buy your way in
