That was when they likely lost their submission databases. As far as I know submissions are open and being accepted... Being listed or listed in a timely manner is still the challenge.

DMOZ has been listing >2000 sites a month, making it the fastest growing directory.

Er...I dont think so.

I have an associate who used to be an administrator for DMOZ.
He isnt anymore. I remember the discusion I had with him about DMOZ not accepting any more subs. The application was basicaly a dead link for ages. I must admit I havent checked out DMOZ for a while, im talking at least a year ago probably two. Anyhow If its back and blazing then I'll get myself over there for some subs.

Thanks everyone except leftybogs. (lol)

I know that at least some, if not a large percentage of DMOZ editors prefer to find websites themselves. They feel that searching out quality websites makes the directory better.

In this respect, if you have a quality website, then you are going to get listed, whether you submit to DMOZ or not.

Hi Kabayan!

That long? I heard someone got accepted for only a week but haven't confirmed it. In your experience or to anyone else here, how long or short does DMOZ accept sites?

Thanks.

It can take anywhere from minutes to years to never. Editors are under no obligation to even look at the pool of suggested sites when working on a category (DMOZ is not a listing processing service for webmasters). More than half the sites that get listed in DMOZ were never submitted in the first place.

BTW, if you are wondering about the site in your profile, don't hold your breath. There is next to no content on the site and a zillion other sites are offering the same thing, so unless you have something those other sites that are listed have, then there is no reason for DMOZ to list you.

Well, actually I'm aware of that. What about niche sites? I have seen dozens of almost similar sites listed. I guess it's more of an editor factor.

cbp, how do I know who the category editor is? Do I need to submit first?

Which is why a site has to offer something or have some content that those already listed do not have, otherwise whats the point of any directory listing the site?

Editors ae listed at bottom of category, but anyone in a higher level category can edit a lower category and there are >200 who can edit anywhere.

If a site is any good, assume it will get eventually listed by an editor finding it, even if not submitted. All submitting a site does is increase the chance an editor might come across your site and review it.
