Re: Any thoughts for the DMOZ rejected?

Hi,
I know, I know. DMOZ is free, so I have no right to complain I guess. Save for the fact that DMOZ is so important to my rankings in Google, and I can't cough up $300 for Yahoo!'s annual fee, I really think something isn't quite right here. Case in point. For all intents and purposes, DMOZ believes I have an affiliate site. I do not. I am, however, a reseller. Apples and oranges, right? But how can it be justified that my competitors can be listed in the directory, when I cannot? I would imagine a large percentage of people with e-commerce websites not selling services have products/merchandise that comes from the same central distributors. How, for example, is it that "abc" website can sell Conair hairdryers and "xyz" website can sell Conair hairdryers...yet these aren't given the "reseller" or "affiliate" kiss of death? Are they not both Conair hairdryers? Are they unique? (I don't sell hairdryers, but the instance is the same.) My site doesn't redirect to some far off distance with my ID # plugged into the URL. My site is only a mirror in the sense that I offer a selection of things other people offer. The main jist of mine is different, the content is useful and unique and I offer other resources besides the e-commerce portion of the site. If the Internet only consisted of a "one of each" type website, there would be no competition, no cause for comparable shopping or no edge for a consumer to have to evaluate where they want to shop and whom with.
I'm not looking for a pity party here...really. I just find it somehow not right that editors of DMOZ seem to have double standards in giving some sites the thumbs-up and others the heave-ho. Is it fair? IMHO, no. DMOZ exists for those who are listed as a catapault in SE's such as Google and the like. I don't believe Joe Internet goes to DMOZ simply to go shopping in areas of interest. Rather, DMOZ is the (one of the) all important links for site owners to attain what we are all trying to attain...to improve rankings. Seems like there's a huge room for improvement. Ultimately, your DMOZ listing or non-listing could have your site flourish or flounder. It's probably that important...and that is why I'm not happy with its set up.
Does anyone want to talk about this w/ me? I could use a pick me up. |
Best bet would be to fill your site with content about hairdryers, Information, Health Issues, Funny Incidents well anything that might be interresting in regards of hairdryers, it might be a bit of work but i would imagine that this would be unique enough to get listed.
regards
