    Why is my Title Tag indexing differently on Mobile vs Desktop

    We have a responsive WP theme. Our home page title tag is same for both desktop and mobile yet Google is now indexing our home page on mobile incorrectly. Furthermore, we have no idea where they are pulling this data from. The title they are indexing is not written anywhere in our code. Also this just started ha opening out of the blue. We made no changes to the site and Google was perfectly indexing our home page title for desktop and mobile just only 2 Weekes ago. Help!

    Have you clicked the mobile search results to confirm they are both going to the same page ?
    I ask because we had a run of hacked sites where the index was being effected in a similar way .

    This isn't really an SEO question but more of a developers question which can be easily found the the WP forums. And make sure it's not using DMOZ info.

    Hey guys,

    My issue is similar. The title tag is the same for mobile and desktop, however on mobile serp it shows a capital letter on one of the letters, and on desktop and it doesn't. Any reasons why?

    Thanks

    If you can provide a screenshot for the result it would be better to provide a appropriate answer to the question. There might be different urls or it might be displaying a old title which you may have updated.

    See screenshots attached (Desktop and Mobile)

    The mobile one has a capital letter "2Degrees"

    Thanks

    Its possible Google is pulling this in from DMOZ

    I would add the following
    <meta
    name="robots" content="noodp"/>

    Plus I am am a bit unsure why you have
    <meta name="googlebot" content="nosnippet">

    nosnippet: prevents a snippet from being shown in the search results
    noodp: prevents the alternative description from the ODP/DMOZ from being used

    I must admit nosnippet is a new one on me, I had to look it up although does it appears self explanatory.

    Although noodp is meant for the description part I have seen google pull in a title that was nowhere on the site before, adding noodp fixed it for me, I cant explain though why the mobile v desktop are different but add the above and give it 2 or 3 weeks to see if that's the issue.
    IMHO

    I don't think it's dmoz:

    It could also be the length, as the desktop version matches your title tag and the mobile looks to have been changed to suit mobile. Perhaps this is just Google trying to be smart?

    Dmoz I believe would only use the title and not the description, unless somethings changed.
