Whitelist a name (or outrank a .gov website)

    Hi,

We have an issue with a client that has some ‘bad’ post about him showing up when googling his company an/or name.

When googling this client’s business say “Doe & Smiths Lawyer” – an article from a government (Security and Investment Commission) website come up in the search result at the 4 spot mentioning one of the owners (Jon Doe). The article is listing the owner for something that happened a while back and the content is not putting him in a “good light”
How am I best to trying to outrank a government site so this particular article ends up on the second page of the search result?

Should I do some article and try to do some press-releases or would it be sufficient to add more articles to the their website?

Any suggestions would be much apricated.

So the post is true and your client does not like it, mmmm its going to be really difficult.

This sounds like a case where you have no option to contact who ever posted it and ask them to remove it. A lot will depend on what it is on how willing that person is to delete it or not.
I am afraid online reputation management is something that has gained in popularity over recent years and there are companies who specialise in it. Some will charge a small fortune though so I hope your client has deep pockets.

One silly solution, the client could just change his name.
    IMHO

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
I thought about that too – ie maybe rebranding the company so when someone search for the company his name does not show.
This is the issue at the moment when someone search for the company his name show up. The problem is that this article is on a .gov website so it will be hard to “push” the article to the second page.

Another thought I had was to address the article in a post on his website explaining what happened etc. I don’t know the whole story myself.

    Thanks
    J
