Question What does position 0 mean in search console, search analytics

    Hello SEO chat community.

I just downloaded a report from Google search console > Search analytics.
The report is for comparing the search analytics for 2 different periods. ( Imagine it's comparing 2 month ago with last month )

As you know, the report includes "position" which means the average position of the specified queries in the specified range of date.

There are a few queries with their position 0 which I don't understand what it means.

Please notice that the report is "comparison" of two different periods.

    Columns are:

    Queries
    2/27/17-3/27/17 Clicks
    3/27/17-4/26/17 Clicks
    2/27/17-3/27/17 Impressions
    3/27/17-4/26/17 Impressions
    2/27/17-3/27/17 CTR
    3/27/17-4/26/17 CTR
    2/27/17-3/27/17 Position
    3/27/17-4/26/17 Position

For some queries, the position for one of the date ranges is 0.

    Best regards.

    Shayan~

It did not rank I would have assumed for that period.

    Hello Chedders.
    Thanks for your reply.

how is it possible that for a query, a website never ranks in 28 days and right the day after that 28 days, it starts to rank?

Doesn't it look strange to you?

its the average position during that time period. so yes that's more than possible.
It also shows personalised results within that average so if you visit the site often and then do a search and find yourself if the numbers are low you could be effecting the results.
