What to do with GA when migrate to HTTPS

    Hi guys,

This is my first post here to the community!

Nice to meet you all!, I'm still new with all these SEO stuff

Currently, our website has fully migrated to HTTPS from HTTP.

and now we wanna know how to track this on google analytics?

Do we need to create new property on webmaster tools? and what about google analytics? new view or new property as well?

    Thank you!

Do we expect to see some traffic drop from this migration too?

    Best Regards,
    Kunapas

You need to setup a new property in search console, (webmaster tools)
Analyticss is done via a tacking code so that should be ok.

You need to check what happens to a user if they goto the http version of your site. does it redirect correctly to the https version ? I am not just talking about the home page here you need to also check some of the inner pages as well plus the www and non www versions of your site, do they all redirect correctly. ?

If thats all done correctly the dip in traffic should be minimal

    Hi Chedder!

    Thanks for your reply.

Haha I just confused between GA and webmaster tool.

I created a new property on GA for HTTPS which actually we can just change on view setting from http to https right?

Will focusing more on redirect 301 and canonical now.

Do you mind me to tell the difference please? it literally does almost the same thing right?

    Thank you!

If you mean the differences between GA and search console (thats the current name for webmaster tools)

GA is used for monitoring traffic and users.

Search console is used for the health of your site, what you rank for, who links to you and things like that

    Hi

    Sorry for didn't ask clearly.

I mean the canonical vs 301 redirect.

from earlier reply you suggest me to redirect all http site to https site right?

Some article, I read don't suggest redirect the whole site but using canonical instead...

Thank you and sorry for the trouble!

If a user follows a external link to your site via a http link you will want them to be redirectEd to the new https version.
Yes a canologic tag would pass the page rank but not the users. A 301 does both.
