    Title Page with Locations

Hi Everyone. Been reading this site forever., just great info !!!
I have a Roofer that wants a page for each town/ city he serves.
My question is regarding the title page...
Example, he wants to serve dallas texas, houston, beamont, and austin texas.. just an example.

Which title would work best for his title page for dallas tx ?
    Option 1,2, or 3 ?

    1) Roofer Dallas TX
    2) Roofer | Dallas TX
3 Roofer | Dallas TX | Roofing Installer

My last questions are, is option 3 considered Keyword stuffing in your opinions? Should the word roofer be first in title or should Dallas Tx be first?
    Thanks everyone !

Put forth your most important keyword 1st !

Do you want to rank for Dallas Tx

    or

    Roofing Installer

Personally I would do something like the following... ( just an off the hip suggestion, I am sure you can do better if you think about it hard enough )

Residential Roofing | Roof Repair | Roof Installation

Then let the site do the rest...

    myroofingcompany.com/Dallas/Roof-Installation

    or

    .../Dallas/Residential-Roofing

I think you get my point.

When somebody types in Dallas Roofer, even if you were lucky enough to get into the first page; what's going to make people click on your result opposed to the other results? The searcher will already know you're all roofers, because that's what they've asked for. You're just reinstating what they already know. I'd personally write something to improve your CTR, to stand out. Yep, you're a roofer - but why do you deserve their click?!

The issue with 1 and 2, I have a feeling google MIGHT add onto your title as it isn't majorly descriptive too. So I think they'll probably make it: Roofer | Dallas TX - your brand... so to prevent Google from playing with your title, it would probably be worth being more descriptive and really making use of the characters you're allowed within the SERPS

Edit: Didn't see KOS - he's the guy to listen to for local search :-)

I really want to make pages for multiple towns.. another example and maybe better is replacement windows.
lets say i want a replacement window page in dallas.. lets assume a homeowner types in “replacement windows in dallas area”..
which out of the 3 would i have a better chance at ?
    1) replacement windows Dallas Texas
    2) Replacement Windows | Dallas Texas
3 ) Replacement Windows | Dallas Texas | Windows and Installations

for option 3, i was hoping to catch replacement windows dallas, windows, or window installers in dallas.. thats why used pipes.
any opinions on that? Im using windows but it can apply to anything..

I personally think you're obsessing a bit too much with keywords.
    All three would be suitable

Will say again though, I think those titles are as ugly as sin

Let Google do the mix and matching.
Name the site Company's name plus Roofing and let the site content do the rest, you can create sub pages for Dallas etc. but title them just that and let google mix and match.

Lexer, try to trust the search engine. It's very intelligent.

I do think it's a bit repetitive, whether Google will value your page any less I don't know. But the advice above is from two guys who have been doing SEO before adam and eve arrived lol. I'd personally listen to what they're saying; I know when you're new to SEO it's easy to become eager to put keywords in whenever possible but you really don't need to do it

Page title is an important tag but it is only 1 element of many as to why a page will rank for any given keyword.
You need to keep page title as a short description of the page, its after all the title of the page, nothing more nothing less.

You can get the perfect title but not see any movement in placement, as I said its just one thing on your site, you need to also use other tags such as H1 tag, alt text, text in the copy. etc all of this is important so google understand what the page is all about.

Page title though as they are shown to users in googles search results (if google trust your suggestion) is what influences if users will visit, you have to find a balance with something that encourages clicks but still actually describe the page. If you just do a sales pitch then google will ignore it and make up its own.

One last thing and something I always warn people about, targeting towns / cities are called doorway pages and as such are against google guidelines, on a small scale I would doubt its a problem but where the cut off is and google slap you with a penalty is anyone's guess.

Did you guys Google Dallas Roofing Company?
    1)BertRoofing
    2)Homeadvisor
    3) Angies List
    4) Yelp
    5) Yelp
    6) DMagazine
    7) Porch
    8) Yellow Pages
    9) BBB
    10) BBB
    11) BBB
    12) BBB
    13) BBB
    14) BBB
    15) CLCRoofing

Google is kind enough to show a B&M at 1 and 15. Other than that you're up against the directories. My advice, paid search with continual testing of:
    Incentives
    Calls to action
    images
    button text
    body text
    trust statements

I would track form and phone conversions and assign an accurate dollar amount to each acquisition.

My content marketing (not SEO) would be geared towards long-form conversational search and promotion through social media.

The days of "What should my title be, "Dallas Roofer or Roofer Dallas" are over. Move off it onto something that will return a measurable ROI.

I agree with both Chedders and KP.

Chedders the OP sent me a pm and I explicitly warned him about "Doorway Pages" and their caveats in depth. With some suggestions on how to avoid being labeled as such by Google.

KP you as well, spot on with solid advice ! I just don't feel comfortable with giving too much advice with Adwords per-say.

When I searched the term there was only one directory, but as I'm searching from the UK I'm sure KP's results are more accurate.

Another thing you could do is get listed in these directories KP is talking about, figure out what they use as a scoring system.

#1 in the SERPS for my main keyword, for one of my projects, is a directory. Took 2 clients to give reviews for the business to be #1 in the directory. That gives the business a large chunk of its traffic.
