None..there's no reason to use any tool daily.

On a side note: don't push links here.

Not sure if this make me the "dumbest smart person" or the "smartest dumb person" here... but I will never trust anything that bleeds for 5 days and lives!

The initial question sparked my curiosity. According to Test-ok no tool needs to be used daily, but what would be the tools you'd recommend us newbies to get familiar with, and which would you recommend not to be touched even with a very long stick?

If there's one thing I've learned from reading these forums, and more specifically fathoms posts, is to avoid automatic-whatever tools and do all the thinking myself instead of trusting a bit of code. Any other pro-tips will be deeply appreciated.

    As a newbie - NONE.

If your proficiency suffers because you don't use any tools your knowledge/skills are too primitive to be of any use to using any tool because the tool will do the thinking for you.

I pick up expired domains using a completely manual process and my developer made a tool using my knowledge to determine what makes for a quality expired domain...

Wikipedia links while nofollow are a sign of great trust. As anyone doing research would trust Wikipedia references and commonly reference such sources with a dofollow citation.

The tool focused on that tidbit and found a great Russian non-government agency domain that had 39 Wikipedia links.

    And thousand other linking domains.

Another great feature of the expired domain it had a live site - which suggest the owner forgot to renew.

These three points make a good expired domain a GREAT BUY!

Except... the live website has had a FOR SALE BY OWNER sign as the homepage for two years... Suggesting the Wikipedia editor controlling those 39 links is also likely the owner... and while the value of Wikipedia links is TRUST for research... no one actually did any research in the past two years, or if they did wouldn't link to a FOR SALE BY OWNER... a large chunk of linking domains are likely in the current owner's pocket.

Making this domain a lemon even when the tool says it is GREAT using my own logic as its framework.

The tool developer, and two trainees LOVED the domain

That's why until you have mastered your craft you shouldn't use any tools.

    @Don
you might want to use a rank tracker about once a month, and a backlink checker maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Other than that I can't think of any others.
I use Rank Tracker and SEO Spyglass for the above information.
any automated tool that adds something to your site or elsewhere I'd stay away from.

Wow, that was actually a really nice example of why use the good ol' brainbasket instead of blindly trusting signals given by a piece of code.

Also there's a nice chunk of wisdom in this situation you describe, gotta keep it in mind so there's one less stone to stumble over on my way to proficiency. Thanks!

You might also keep an eye on your stats, I don't consider that a tool but I guess it is in that sense.

There are people who use tools every day - like SEO agencies assessing potential clients. As an agency owner on top of the multiple plugins I have tested two SEO tools during the last 2 years - SEO Powersuite (seopowersuite.com) + SE Ranking (seranking.com). Extra backlinks analysis I run is Ahrefs (ahrefs.com) - it might loose a few links on the way - but it is a good price / service ratio.

P.S. Hope you guys do not mind the links... I expect they are nofollow, anyways
