    New Site Question (SEO Noob)

    HI Everyone

I am getting a site developed at this time, will be going live in the next 30 days. My question is
am I able to start submitting directory submissions and backlinks with a blank site at this time
    before everything has completed?

Thanks so much for the help, this site is an absolute life saver and great resource

You can start advertising your site yes but submitting to directories and gaining easy to get backlinks will damage your site before you even start.

Thanks, so does that mean you recommend not doing any directory submissions even when the site is live?

Unless you can find a good one or 2 for your niche.
There are 2 types of directories, the genuine ones which charge you money and all links are nofollow so just provide you with good traffic. These are OK as they dont help you in terms of SEO so your are not attempting to manipulating your search position. These provide traffic, nothing more.
Then we have the link farm type directories, these provide you with link juice via follow links. However these can be toxic to your site which is the last thing you want even before you launch.

The same goes for your other link building really, the easier the link generally are the ones to avoid. There are exceptions but you really want your users creating these links, anything else is against google guidlines. As you read more and more about SEO you will see lots of people telling you you need Links which is true they will be your path to success but how you gain them is the tricky bit.

I don't think so. You do much harm to your site!
